Humour #27
Hannah Gadsby
How could I talk about comedy and not mention Hannah Gadsby? Her show ‘Nanette’ — now on Netflix and followed by another show called ‘Douglas’ — was an absolute revelation for many people. She is pure authenticity, she tells her story as it is and she explains why she is quitting comedy. That doesn’t sound funny. But in a way, her genuineness, her empathy and her way of telling -sometimes terrible - stories make us laugh almost all the way through. We can be tempted to cry too. This is so powerful. She talks about body shame, rape, inequality and many other critical topics. It’s like a life lesson in one hour. Something everyone should watch. Everything is brilliant about this show (see trailer below and if you don’t have Netflix, see another act below too), the writing is perfect, the delivery is very emotional, and if you are not convinced, maybe I haven’t said it enough? Her show is BRILLIANT. There. Just watch it.
If you don’t have Netflix, here an act she did in 2014 in Sydney where she is brilliant as usual to give you a flavour of her show. I absolutely love “the pill is like content insurance”, so good:
Enjoy! And stay tuned for future videos, coming every week!
