Humour #11
Katherine Ryan
Take a Canadian women, make her live in the UK for a few years and you’ve got Katherine Ryan, expert in making you laugh 10 times in a minute with her stories, not just punchlines. She excellent at describing a situation and making the audience feel part of it. When she says “Does anyone know Jane from the North London School run?” everyone in the audience is cracking up. Of course, we don’t know Jane but now we are part of an intimate conversation, as if it was just her and our self, two friends having a chat.
Her high pitch voice can be a bit annoying at first but she quickly manages to use other voices to build other characters and we definitely get attached to her and what she represents. As an expat, and a single mother, she loves to point out the differences between the UK and Canada and also to highlight the different way we treat men and women. By exaggerating a few traits, she actually denunciates the gender inequality and how crazy it can be sometimes. And turning one stereotype around using Melania Trump’s story: “if he is still eating solid food, he is too young, go old!”. Love her!
Enjoy! And stay tuned for future videos, coming every week!
